Do I need a planner?

This article is about wedding planners. Now if you’re reading so that I can tell you whether you will or won’t need a wedding planner, I’ll spoil the fun and tell you up front that I can’t answer that question for you. What I’ll do in this article, is tell you what I think are some of the benefits of having a wedding planner. And hopefully that will help you decide if having a planner is right for you.

Wedding planners are there to help you organize and execute everything about your wedding day. From finding and dealing with vendors, to creating schedules and even on the day of your wedding, they are the ones making sure everything that you planned is happening the way you planned it. 

Here are the ways I think wedding planners can help you.

Wedding planners can deal with all your vendors and help you see a big picture view of everything happening on your wedding day. Dealing with multiple vendors who are all trying to achieve different things can sometimes get a little tricky. Having a wedding planner is a great way to bring all of these moving parts under one person’s view to make sure they all accomplish what you’d like, without creating conflicts. And although wedding planning can be fun and exciting, bringing in someone with experience specifically in weddings is a huge benefit.


Wedding planners are working on your wedding plans during business hours. Although many of your vendors are going to be working for you on your wedding day, during the week they usually keep business hours. And chances are you might be at work which can cause some delays or difficulties in communicating with your wedding vendors.


As the saying goes, you don’t know what you don’t know. Wedding planners specialize in weddings. This mens that they are bringing a variety of benefits specifically pertaining to weddings. This includes experience, contacts, ideas. So although anyone that plans events can be beneficial, planners that specialize in weddings will bring you more value.


Now if you are someone that would rather be in control of all the details of your wedding and you prefer to plan everything on your own, there is still a recommendation I’d offer. The most important thing on your wedding day is for you to enjoy and be a part of every moment. Of course I want that for you because in your photos, I want to capture your smiles and your connections with family and friends. And you simply can’t do that if you’re the one that’s in charge of making sure everything is running properly. You probably don’t want to pin this on a bridesmaid or family member because the truth is, that person is a guest and as a guest they also want to enjoy your wedding and celebrate with you. Think about hiring a Day Of coordinator. Day of coordination is a service that most wedding planners provide in which they learn everything you’ve planned for your wedding and work with you on the wedding day so that the burden of making sure everything runs smoothly comes off of your shoulders and you can actually enjoy everything about your wedding.
